Foi criada a Colossus uma inteligência artificial independente capaz de gerir toda a produção e manutenção das fábricas de fumaça. Na cidade de Saint Paul uma das fábricas cortou a comunicação e o fornecimento de energia, é então convocado Xavier Pontes, um mercenário cuja a mente está aprisionada no robô de exploração XPL-0R4T0R (XPL), uma máquina projetada para exploração de áreas inóspitas, sua missão é identificar o mau funcionamento da Colossus e restaurar o sistema de gestão ao seu normal.
